This definitely left us speechless.
During Coachella, Madonna did a surprise performance during Drake’s performance and ended it by making out with him. Although it didn’t come as a surprise to us that Madonna would do something like this, Drake’s reaction to the tongue down left us a bit baffled. Did Drake like it? Did he not? You be the judge.
Aside from the Roseland Ballroom in New York (and Asheville North Carolina several years back), I can’t remember the last time I attended a major tattoo convention. Looking back, I think the last show I went to may have been Ink & Iron and that was way back in 2008 so it was refreshing to be able to hit up Musink this past weekend.
As with any show, I had the pre show jitters but once I got there I felt like I was back at home. With friends, family and familiar faces all around, it was good to be back and this years show was definitely memorable because I had the family there to hold me down. Although I was only able to attend for a day it was definitely a good time. I got to see a lot of old friends and meet quite a few new ones and all I can say is a lot of stuff changed in the years that have past. There’s plenty of new faces, new artists and it’s good to see that our industry is growing.
The mandatory surprise selfie.
I gotta say thanks again to the Skin Design Fam for holding down the fort at Musink. I’m honored that both Fernie and Vic took home awards for their work and it’s well deserved because they’ve definitely put in the time, effort and dedication to master their craft. Till next time…be blessed and we’ll see you all soon! – RP
Monte posted and ready for the next session.
You gotta love it.

Yesterday, if you were out and about during the Superbowl, you probably noticed that it looked like a ghost town. The streets were empty, there were no lines at restaurants, and that’s all because there were over 100 million people glued to the boob tube.
It’s because of this that commercials during the game cost a few million dollars, and it’s one of the most festive events even if you don’t like sports. There are those that watch it for the game and the rest of us sit in anticipation for the epic commercials and of course the half time show.
Here’s a look at some of our favorite commercials as well as some fun facts…
Clash of Clans: An epic commercial that should have “taken” home top honors.
Nationwide created a “nationwide” depression with this commercial. Talk about somber.
T-Mobile gave us a handful with Kim Kardashian: Proof once again that the rise of Kim Kardashian marked the fall of American Society.
Snickers: A killer commercial featuring one our favorite actors, Machete aka Danny Trejo
All natural from a fast food chain? Probably would’ve been a better commercial for Trader Joe’s. Instead of buying a burger, this commercial made us want to go to a strip club.
Really? This commercial had me feeling all bad. Then the ending made me feel like beating the old lady. Watch for it.
THE 1ST SUPERBOWL
The first Super Bowl in 1967 between the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs was watched by 51.1 million people, according to Nielsen. However, it was the only Super Bowl to be televised on two networks (CBS and NBC) simultaneously.
HOW MANY PEOPLE WATCHED?
Last year’s game was the most-watched TV show in U.S history with an average of 111.5 million viewers. It broke the previous records set in 2012 and 2010.
TOM BRADY SETS RECORDS
Brady will become the first quarterback to ever start in six Super Bowls. He had been tied with John Elway, who played in the game five times.
MOST EXPERIENCED SUPER BOWL COACHING MATCH UP
Bill Belichick will coach his sixth Super Bowl, while Pete Carroll has reached the game for a second time, setting a record with eight combined appearances between head coaches. When the Patriots played the New York Giants in 2012, Belichick and Tom Coughlin combined for seven appearances.
A ticket to any Super Bowl is arguably the most sought-after ticket in sports, but that wasn’t always the case. The attendance for Super Bowl I was 61,946, but the seating capacity at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum was more than 94,000 at the time.
YOU PAID HOW MUCH FOR A TICKET?
Tickets are being priced higher than ever before on the secondary market, with the average asking price at TiqIq surpassing $6,000. The site had never even tracked previous Super Bowl tickets going for more than an average of $5,000 per seat.
A COMMERCIAL COST HOW MANY MILLIONS?
After a 30-second ad cost $4 million in 2014, that number is expected to rise to $4.5 million this year.
SAY NO TO CABLE
For the fourth straight year, fans can watch the Super Bowl online. Viewers can stream 11 hours of Super Bowl content, without the requirement of a cable subscription.
If winning the Super Bowl was not enough motivation, players on the winning team get paid $97,000.
And yes, even Super Bowl losers get a little extra cash with players on the losing team taking home $49,000.
In what was probably the most confusing move ever, Mercedes Benz decided to merge two of their brand names, with one of their body style classifications, to name one new car. Yeah…that was confusing enough to explain. This year , the “S-Class” and “Maybach” will merge to become the new Mercedes-Maybach S600.
Priced from USD $189,350, the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class seamlessly melds the perfection of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class with the incredible heritage and prestige of the Maybach nameplate. Mercedes-Maybach is not an equipment line. So here’s how they explain it, they’re saying that it is a sub-brand that introduces Mercedes-Benz vehicles in an even more exclusive form. Alongside Mercedes-AMG, Mercedes-Maybach becomes the second sub-brand for Mercedes-Benz that was created for customers who demand the absolute best. These vehicles are distinguished by unparalleled interior appointments and extensive individualization options to fulfill the requirements of even the most discerning customers worldwide.
OK…enough of that nonsense. The bottom line, it’s a hell of a car with great design.
Step foot into Skin Design Tattoos, and it becomes clearly evident that we’re obsessed with minimalist design. From the smooth lines and all the LED accent lighting, our attention to detail went so far overboard that even our restrooms share the same design and ambiance. So when we got a chance to see the new concept F015 Mercedes we were instantly sold. This week at the CES Show in Las Vegas, Mercedes-Benz is displaying the F015 Luxury in Motion, a previously hinted-at concept car designed from the ground up for robotic transportation. Passengers normally sit face to face so they can talk more, and anyone can control the car through remote units and gestures — this is really a classic, luxurious carriage remade for the modern era, according to Mercedes.
The ultra-modern ride has color-coded LED lights on the front and back to let you know what the car is thinking and it’s a car that has it all. In all honesty, (and thanks to the Jetsons) this is the car we all thought we’d be driving by 2015, but in reality, it’s so far ahead of its time that we probably won’t get to actually buy – let alone drive it – for light years ahead.
Our CFO is probably trying to order this Benz right now. But only in his dreams will he ever be able to buy a car that’s only a design excercise.
On behalf of Skin Design, I would like to wish everyone a Happy and Prosperous New Year.
First off, we could have never made it this far without the friends, fans and loyal customers that have supported us throughout the years. As artists, the foundation of our business, as well as the development of our growth, is found in those who are willing to trust us with their skin. The bottom line, with no canvases, there is no art, and without art, there is no artist. So thank you again.
Second, I want to personally thank my Skin Design Family for all of their hard work. The loyalty you have given me throughout the years is priceless and because of you I have not only learned, but also grown so much as an artist. Aside from that, you have helped make me a much better person, so thank you for all the inspiration and your continued drive. This combined excellence has made us what we are known for today.
This year also marks my 25th anniversary as a tattoo artist, and I could not be more proud of what tattooing has become today. Skin Design started off as a passion project as well as a way of supporting my family. It has given me the ability to exercise my skills, and improve my talents, and back then no one could have ever convinced me that the industry would have developed into what it is today.
With that said, at last, I have to thank my beautiful wife and kids. Without them I would have never made it this far. They are my back bone, and they are the driving force behind the joy, the pain, and the challenges which have helped mold me as an artist. They were there to support my dreams, and despite any setbacks, they continue to be the reason I wake up each day and push harder.
In closing, this industry was built on the essence of optimism, good-naturedness, and the capacity to do more. We are very excited for 2015, and have so much more in store for the near future, so lets keep moving forward and I hope to see you all in 2015. Cheers to a New Year!
