Eazy-E tattoo done by Fernie Andrade

Just in time for the release of the new movie “Straight Outta Compton”, here’s a fitting piece that was done in memory of Eazy E. The tattoo was done by SDT artist Fernie Andrade, and it’s a powerful tattoo that definitely takes us all on a trip down memory lane.

Born Eric Lynn Wright, he was better know as Eazy-E and has been often referred to as “The Godfather of Gangsta Rap”. A known drug dealer, and high school drop out, Eazy dropped out of school in the 10th grade and invested into Ruthless Records and in turn became a rapper. He then linked up with Ruthless Records artist Ice Cube who wrote, “Boyz in the Hood and along with Dr. Dre, Cube and Eazy they formed N.W.A.

Since then they created their own musical genre, and their movement has been so critical and relevant that it inspired the upcoming movie, “Straight Outta Compton”. For many, this was a magical moment in the 80’s and if you were lucky enough to attend their first concert then you already know what I’m talking about. Looking back, I still remember the concert they held, called “Coolin’ in Compton” which went down at Compton College, and at the time no one thought about business or money, it was all about living for the moment and just being a part of the festivities.

25 years later, N.W.A. has proven the weight of their worth with the premiere of the highly anticipated movie, “Straight Outta Compton”. When they first began their entry into music, they not only launched a musical movement, but a genre which has become timeless and reminiscent of times both good and bad.

The movie officially launches this weekend and after the screening we can attest to the movies quality interpretation. It’s a trip down memory lane for all those who were around back then, and it’s a movie that’s sure to bring back memories about times both good and bad.
