Ramon Sokun – Tattoo Artist & Storyteller

Born in San Francisco and raised in Long Beach, CA, I’ve been passionate about art since the age of three. With my brother’s guidance and self-teaching, I honed my skills throughout childhood, eventually earning a Bachelor of Science in Game Art & Design from the Art Institute of Orange County.

I first picked up a prison-style tattoo machine in 2003 but didn’t truly embrace tattooing until the end of 2020, when I transitioned to a rotary machine. In 2021, I began working at Authentic Roots Tattoo in Long Beach, CA, and in 2023, I joined Skin Design Tattoo, embarking on an incredible journey with Robert Pho in Hawaii. Now, with almost four years of professional tattooing experience, I specialize in black-and-grey realism and surrealism, with a focus on Cambodian and Southeast Asian art—cultural storytelling deeply rooted in my heritage.

My inspiration stems from my love for history, mythology (Greek, Indian, and Southeast Asian), and nature. I dedicate myself to learning ancient Southeast Asian art and infusing it into my work, creating pieces rich with cultural and religious themes.

Goals for 2025

Undertake full-scale tattoo projects.
Push my creative boundaries and refine my distinctive style.
Hone my skills to stand out as a unique voice in the tattoo industry.
Beyond the Studio
When I’m not tattooing, I enjoy family time with my partner and kids, drawing with my daughter, and exploring art to expand my creativity. I also dive into 3D modeling, 3D printing, music, movies, and history—each fueling my artistic journey.

Fun fact: I love engaging with clients, making them feel at ease, sharing history lessons, and cracking jokes along the way.
