JOAN SEBASTIAN TATTOO

JOAN_SEBASTIAN-PORTRAIT

Joan Sebastian tattoo by Fernie Andrade.

This memorial tattoo of Joan Sebastian was done by Las Vegas tattoo artist, Mr. Andrade. Mr. Sebastian was the fabled Mexican singer/songwriter who rose from the ranks of a poverty-stricken childhood in Mexico, and became one of the most recorded, acclaimed and best selling acts in Mexico.

Aside from being a musician, Joan Sebastian was an accomplished producer, actor on both television and film but set all those aside and he was known as being one of the best entertainers of our time. Some of his accomplishments include insane Billboard charts, up until his passing.

He charted 10 top 10 sets on Top Latin Albums, including two No. 1s: En Vivo: Desde La Plaza El Progreso De Guadalajara (2001) and 13 Celebrando El 13 (2013), his last studio album.

OWL & LION TATTOO

Owl portrait tattoo by artist, Andy Pho

Tattoos always have some back end story, and this owl tattoo is no different. Whether it’s the significance of it’s meaning, its relativity to its roll in nature, there’s always a reason why people adore them. For the Greeks, the owl is sacred to the goddess of learning and Athena even depicted an owl on some Greco-Roman currency as a symbol of status, intelligence and of course, wealth.

In ancient Egyptian, Celtic, and Hindu cultures the symbolic meaning of owl revolved around guardianship of the underworlds, and a protection of the dead. In other cultures it has also gained a grim reputation for being the ruler of the night and seer of souls. Thus creating the morbid misunderstanding that it had negative associations with death.

Needless to say, the owl is a powerful creature both in form and function, but also from an artistic perspective. The depth and detail that comes from its natural make up gives the artist a challenging subject which can end up in a magnificent piece as seen in this completed work by Andy Pho.

DRAWING INSPIRATION FROM EVERYDAY ITEMS.

What do you do when you’re retired? Some will garden, some will travel, but for Victor Nunes, a 63 year old retired art director from São Paulo, Brazil, he started creating drawings which are now inspiring people all around the world.  He started his Facebook page on January 12, 2015 and he’s already amassed over 34k+ likes and that’s because of his clever sketches in which he incorporates everyday objects into drawings.

Leaves turn into faces, lettuce into hair and dresses, scissors into animals and fortune cookies into hats. It’s an inspiring follow simply because of what he comes up with, and its sure to inspire artists all around the world.

As for me, well I couldn’t create a circle if I traced around a can so this is definitely impressive and inspiring. It’s also an eye opening feat which shows you that creativity is all around us so long as we find it within us to explore our options. Till next time…thanks for stopping by the SDT site and have a great weekend!
